Diabetes Weight Loss - 3 Ways to Combat Fat During the Holiday Season

The average person gains 12 pounds during the holiday season. This can be a real problem if you have diabetes. Weight loss is suggested as a way to help keep blood glucose levels down and that can be tough to achieve during this time of the year. However, common sense and a few simple tips can help you keep that seasonal weight gain to a minimum. Here are the three most important things you can do to keep from gaining weight over the holidays.

Make time for exercise. It can be difficult to maintain your routine during the holiday season. If you can not get to the gym, try to compensate for that: take the stairs instead of the elevator; park your car further away from your destination; walk instead of driving; etc.

Pay attention to your food intake. Evaluate what is being served at parties and make sure you load our plate with small portions of the things you really want to eat. If you can get mashed potatoes any time, save space for something you only get seasonally. And do not pass up your veggies! Eat smart, not mindlessly.

Socialize. You can cut your caloric intake by talking more than eating. If you are engaged in a gripping conversation you are more likely to eat fewer calories.

Holiday weight is no fun for anyone, but can be particularly problematic if you have diabetes. Weight loss may not be a realistic goal during this time period, but you should strive to keep your weight steady. This will help keep your glucose levels at manageable levels, and keep you feeling well and in the holiday spirit.

Minding your glucose levels is of the utmost importance for people with diabetes. Weight loss needs to be on the mind of these people all the time. Following these simple steps and you can be well on your way to controlling your weight and keeping your diabetes in check. Click here for more diabetes weight loss tips.

HOME :: Health-and-Fitness / Diabetes Diabetes Type One Cure

It is known fact that there is Type I and Type II Diabetes and Hypoglycemic Effects of Selected Ingredients. But meanwhile, we will limit our discussion on Type 1 for the purposes of this study.

It is imperative, to find a lasting solution to diabetes mellitus; which is now burdensome to most nations of the world. Record has it that every 1 out 4 diabetes patients of the world is an Indian, meaning that Indians are mostly affected. I stood to be corrected. This does not mean that every other nation may not be affected, or has not been affected up to this particular reference brought under focus, and unless we resolutely resolve to remove the cause from casualties, definitely, we can not remove the casualties from the causes this time, since it the life that is to be salvaged. Due to the growing health burden of diabetes mellitus (diabetes), the diabetes group of people has three choices in find the solution:

1. on how to prevent diabetes;
2. cure diabetes;
3. take better care of people with diabetes, also;
4. To prevent demoralizing impediments to a halt or to the bearable minimal.
The four approaches are actively being pursued by the US Department of Health and Human Services, and the world at large.

To be precise the following two institutions had been on relentless efforts on preventive measures, namely;
1. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and
2. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The NIH is not only involved in research in prevention but had established research to cure both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, especially type 1.
CDC focuses most of its programs on being sure that the proven science is put into daily perform for people with diabetes. If the researches and sciences have no meaningful impact in the life of diabetes, then the huge sum of money invested in to the researches, is just sent to the drain.

Cure to diabetes are being pursued from many perspectives:

They are classified thus:
1. Genetic manipulation (fat or muscle cells that don't normally make insulin have a human insulin gene inserted? Here is where, these "pseudo" islet cells are transplanted into diabetic patients with type 1 diabetes).
2. Pancreas transplantation
3. Islet cell transplet cells produce insulin method)
Every approach has a set of confrontations; these confrontations prevent immune negative response. The confrontations prevent a way of establishing adequate number of insulin cells; maintenance of cells to be lively and few other issues. However, improvement is being achieved in all quarters.

Diabetes Type 1: One Step Closer To A Cure - Interview
The Million dollar question now is that will successful islet cell transplantation spell the end of Type 1 diabetes for millions?

Record has it that a teacher received the islet cell transplanting and the transplantation has proved to have efficacy on Type 1.

A flourishing transplantation of islet cell-transplant procedure for Type 1 diabetes news has been carried by major dailies and journals of the world at large. The procedure is as now being referred to as Edmonton Protocol, ushers in a new era of hope for millions of people with Type 1 diabetes.

The University of Alberta initiated the clinical trails and the design of anti-rejection protocol was done by James Shapiro, M.D., director of the clinical islet transplant program.

The narrative modus operandi go away from previous attempts at islet cell transplant; this is because the use of a narrative steroid-free blend with three drugs to prevent rejection of the transplanted cells were employed, this process gives the impression to prevent the autoimmune diabetes from returning.

Further trails of the steroid-free procedure on other seven diabetic patient that have been living on use of 15 injections per day, had been set free from injections of insulin, effective the post transplantation.

Those who had received this transplantation worry no longer on what percentage of carbohydrates to take or observation of level of sugar is no longer an issue.

How to Stop Prediabetes and High Blood Sugar Levels Destroying Your Health?

Prediabetes, well you would think you either have type 2 diabetes or you don't! In one way it's true, you don't yet have type 2 but it's certainly trying to catch you. Already changes are going on inside your body and they have been for a time now, probably a couple of years. These changes have affected how your body uses both insulin and sugar.

Blood sugar levels vary through the day, your levels are lower before eating and naturally higher following a meal. Your recent test for fasting blood sugars showing you were prediabetic, would have been between 100 to 125 mg/dl (5.5 to 6.9 mmol/l). Levels higher than 126 mg/dl (7 mmol/l) indicate full blown type 2 diabetes. The impaired or prediabetic range for the glucose tolerance test is between 140 to 199 mg/dl (7.8 to 11 mmol/l).

What does this mean to you?

it means your pancreas may not be making enough insulin
your pancreas is still making enough insulin but your body is not responding well to insulin's commands
the amount of insulin being produced, be it a normal amount or more, isn't enough to "open the doors" to certain body cells, and the cells have stopped responding to insulin's commands to let blood sugar in
you eat more food than your body can deal with
could be one or several of the above

What action should you take?

are you overweight or obese? What is your waist measurement ... 40 inches (100 cm) for a male or 34 inches (84 cm) for a female puts you in type 2 diabetes territory. Stabilize your weight then lower your weight to a healthy level. You will gain benefits from any weight loss. You could consult with a dietitian who specializes in diabetes or find a diet book that sets out a style of eating that you will stick with. It needs to be a long-term plan, slow and steady
increase your physical activity. Keep it simple, maybe start walking. Start out small, ten minutes the first days and gradually increase the time up to 20 to 30 minutes four or five times a week. This helps with weight loss. But also with reducing your blood sugars; exercise uses glucose stored in your muscles which then signals your body to send along more from your bloodstream
if your health care provider prescribed medications you will need to follow his instructions. When you lose weight have your health care provider review your medications. Weight loss and major lifestyle changes may actually be more effective than intensive medications.
learn to monitor your blood sugar levels because that's how you will know straight away if you are keeping your blood sugar levels near to normal

Type 2 diabetes does not have to control your life. You can not only prevent disabling complications but effectively stop progression of this condition.

Use Berberine And Get Rid Of Diabetes

The quest for an effective and lifelong cure for diabetes is still ongoing. Although there has been significant advancement and improvement in providing a medicinal solution for the disease, such treatments are still unable to stop diabetes from taking one life after the other every year.

At the present, the best hope people has is the detection of signs and symptoms of the disease as early as possible in order to thoroughly manage diabetes while it still hasn't affected much of an individual's health. One such way is by using berberine.

What is Berberine

With a bright yellow color, berberine can be easily found unlike other herbs. Mostly, it can be obtained through Chinese herbs such as phellodendron and coptis. Originally used as a dye, berberine has been discovered to have certain ingredients that may be effective in treating diabetes. Berberine can be also found in the Japanese plant barberry. Nowadays, berberine is a common ingredient in herbal medicine used for treating intestinal disorders.

In 1995, a study in China was conducted in order to discover if berberine had curative benefits for diabetes. It was only by fortuitous circumstances that the researchers have found out that berberine can also cause blood glucose levels to decrease when used to treat diabetic individuals with diarrhea.

Berberine has also been found by other studies able to help individuals lose weight. Another possible benefit of berberine is the lack of side effects, although this claim requires further proof. Individuals with Type II Diabetes should be glad to hear this as many of them are unable to tolerate present treatments for their condition.

One particular kind of berberine, or alkaloid berberine to be specific, is being presently investigated regarding its therapeutic components. Recent studies have found proof of alkaloid berberine being able to successfully treat hypoglycemia. An abnormally low level of blood sugar or hypoglycemia is a somewhat common side-effect of several diabetic medications.

What You Should Know about Diabetes

If you already know you've diabetes, the news about berberine has surely made your day. On the other hand, if you aren't sure if you have diabetes or not, you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible with your physician. Diabetes is the type of disease that grows uglier the longer it's ignored.

The first thing you should be aware about is its symptoms:

Liquid In, Liquid Out ñ Do you notice that you're urinating more often than usual? Are you feeling more thirty than usual? If so, you should know that such feelings are considered indications of diabetes.

Weight - Do you feel hungry all the time? Do you seem to be losing weight for no reason at all? Such occurrences are also considered as warning signs of diabetes.

Bad Mood - Do you feel easily tired? Were you once good-natured but became easily irritated all of the sudden? If you're not suffering from PMS or heartbreak, it's possible that you already have diabetes.

Causes of Diabetes

Lots of people believe that eating too much sweets or sugary foods is the main cause of diabetes. This claim however has been proven false. Sweets can lead to obesity, however, and obesity can lead to Type II diabetes.

No one really knows for sure why some people become diabetic while some do not. That's why all of us are at risk and it's in our interests to have a general check-up regularly. Forearmed, after all, is forewarned.

Can Diabetes And Eating Fruits Go Together?

Diabetes is one of the most dreaded diseases of the current generation. While for some, diabetes may not be as frightening as cancer or brain damage, it can indeed be a grave condition that could affect one's life entirely. Such is why those who have diabetes cannot be too careful to adjust their lifestyles to keep the symptoms of the disease manageable. Some people even go too careful that they believe that they have to leave out so much of the things they enjoy in life such as eating sweet food. However, such is not entirely the case. Diabetic people can still take pleasure in certain foods to keep their sweet cravings at bay. One way of doing this is by eating fruits ñ Mother Nature's sweet gift to people.

In general, eating fruits can be good for people because fruits are great sources of many essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients that provide a lot of benefits to one's health. However, diabetics might be concerned whether fruits can increase their blood sugar levels or not. The quick answer to that is a simple yes. Fruit, like any other food that contains sugar does increase one's blood sugar. Moreover, fruit can increase blood sugar as fast and as high as other types of food with the same amount of sugar. But does this mean that a diabetic patient has to avoid eating fruits in the same manner as avoiding candy? Not entirely.

Missing out on fruits is not a good idea for diabetics, or any other person. The many benefits that fruits give are very important. Compared to cakes, candy, and other sugar-rich foods, the calories provided by fruits are not empty. Add to this the fact that the concentration of sugar in most fruits is not as high as those in sugar-laded food items, thus eating a piece of apple would not increase blood sugar as much as eating a slice of chocolate cake. The key here is moderation. Of course one would expect to have a great rise in blood sugar after eating a basketful of grapes, but who can eat that big amount of fruits in one sitting? The truth is, one can only eat so much amount of fruits because they can provide satisfaction quicker than sugary snacks.

People are also not created equal. One's reaction to a certain type of food might be different from another's response. Thus, it might take two bananas to increase the blood sugar significantly for one person, but for another guy, the same increase might happen after just eating one banana. The responsibility of the diabetic patient therefore is to find out how his or her body responds to the fruits being eaten. This can be done by monitoring one's blood sugar levels.

When monitoring one's sugar levels, it is important to be honest regarding the serving sizes one consumes. A very large apple may not count as just one serving, thus it is important to honestly judge whatever amount is taken in. One can then have a blood sugar level test an hour or two after eating fruit to see how high or low the fruit has increased the glucose in the blood. Monitoring is very important for one to know how the body gets fruits in. Once a good understanding regarding the relationship of fruits with one's glucose levels, one can then have pretty much a good knowledge of how little or how big fruit servings should be.

Diabetics can indeed eat fruit, and eating fruits may be a great way for them not only to meet the body's nutritive requirements, but also to manage those sweet cravings. By knowing how the body reacts to the fruits one consumes, one would certainly know how best to enjoy fruits, making help one enjoy life as well.

The Magic Of Diabetes Shopping Tours

A diabetic shopping tour is one of the best ways to educate people suffering from diabetes on how to properly shop for their food. This knowledge is integral to being able to sort through the mess of too many consumer goods that seem to be healthy but are actually hazardous to those suffering from the condition.

For those suffering from diabetes, being able to maintain a healthy lifestyle is surely a very big challenge. While diabetes does not really limit person's abilities and functions, it does percent a great hazard to health if not taken care of. If one is not able to maintain a proper diet, take medications on time, and keep vigil on one's insulin levels, this person could look healthy one minute, and turn deadly sick the next.

Diabetes doesn't sound like a gruesome illness; however, it has been the cause of many deaths and disabilities. Those suffering from diabetes have also been known to suffer from loss of appendages due to gangrene and the inability to heal quickly from cuts and scrapes.

This makes watching out for hazards to injury and one a very big part of a diabetic person's life. Aside from this, one other very important item for a diabetic person to look out for is his or her diet. Unfortunately, in this mass consumer world, finding food that is healthy and suitable for diabetic people is doubly hard.

Since there are too many hidden ingredients, and too many refined products out on the market, most of the things sold at supermarkets pose a hazard for people suffering from this condition. That is why it becomes very important to be able not to just know the proper diet of a diabetic person, but to be able to learn how to shop for these things in a real world supermarket environment.

Knowing your diet is not enough

It isn't enough just to know what the recommended foods for you to eat as a diabetic are. More importantly, knowing how to shop at supermarkets for these kinds of foods is tantamount to your health.

How can a diabetic shopping tour help you?

1. They teach you to look beyond the package. The problem with most goods available at supermarkets today is that they sometimes make false claims about their ingredients. They will also advertise the health benefits of their products but if you read their disclaimers hard enough you'll find out that they are not actually healthy at all.

One technique they will teach you is to look for those tiny asterisks that follow most health claims. If they see a health claim with an asterisk go directly to the fine print and read a hard for any qualifiers to the claim.

2. Shopping tours also teach you how to shop smartly. A good diabetic shopping tour will teach you how to avoid foodstuffs that can injure your health and how to find those other foodstuffs that will help you maintain a healthy diet. Most shopping tours will also recommend meals that can be made out of these foodstuffs.

They also have your budget in mind; they would educate you on how to budget your groceries so that you get the most out of your money for each trip to make the grocers.

Conclusion

In the end, the shopping tour against diabetes is probably one of the most important seminars a diabetic person can attend. Not only would it teach them how to stay healthy with a healthy diet, it will also teach them how to discern which products are actually bad for their health.

Diabetics Guide to Non - And Low - Calorie Sweeteners

Although artificial sweeteners like saccharin and cyclamates were in controversy over their safety, some of the newer sweeteners are much safer. Some of the natural choices are even good for you.

One very good choice is Sweet Fiber. It is a combination of xylitol, tagatose, and inulin. Each of these naturally occuring compounds works to produce healthy effects along with adding sweetness.

Xylitol helps to reduce tooth decay rates and is also known to promote a feeling of fullness.

Tagatose behaves like fiber and is almost completely unabsorbed so it has no impact on blood glucose and insulin levels. It also appears to be helpful in raising good HDL cholesterol levels. Tagatose may also reduce the risk of tooth decay.

Inulin is only partly digested by humans. Inulin has also been shown to increase the friendly bacteria in the colon while reducing bad bacteria. Inulin has been shown to suppress appetite, help stabilize blood glucose levels, and maintain high energy levels.

So the combined effects of these three products in one sweetener makes it a very good choice for dibetics and also for preventing diabetes.

Splenda is ok for moderate use because it does not break down when heated, Stevia, also known as Sweetleaf leaves a unpleasant after taste. Nutra Sweet and Equal should be used conservatively. They also lose sweetness when heated.

There you have some choices for your sweet tooth, but remember if you're sweetening up pastry, you also have to account for the carbohydrates.

Non - and Low - calorie sweeteners will make living with diabetes more tolerable, so check out the natural sweeteners. You may do better a finding them at your local health food store.

Diabetes Cure

At this time there is no specific cure for diabetes, but research continues to try to find a way to end this disease, rather than just treating and managing it as is now done. The problem with just treating and controlling diabetes is that it requires constant care, attention, and medications that continue to change over an individual’s life. Many people with diabetes are not treated and may be unaware of the condition. This leads to further complications including kidney disease, circulation problems, cardiovascular disease, vision problems, and elevated heart attack and stroke risk. It is estimated that only a third of all diabetics are treated, the other two thirds are not being treated for the condition.

Research continues to focus on curing, preventing and managing diabetes. While there are significant advancements in managing and preventing diabetes, it is public knowledge and education that allows people to understand the symptoms of diabetes and prediabetes, and start prevention programs. Since many people are unaware of the symptoms, they don’t use the prevention programs. Many school health programs now offer advice on diet, exercise and lifestyle choices that will reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

In addition to working on prevention and management there is ongoing research to find a cure for diabetes. There are several surgical or medical procedures being tested to cure diabetes, but at this time they are still largely experimental.

Islet cell transplants

Recent advances have been made in the transplantation of islet cells into the body. Islet cells are made up of two types of cells:

* alpha cells, which make glucagon, a hormone that raises the level of glucose in the blood
* beta cells, which make insulin

It is hoped that the production of insulin in the body with this transplant would eliminate the need for daily injections that type 1 diabetes have to do.

The side effects of this transplant include rejection of the cells by the body and reactions to the immunosuppressive drugs. These side effects are very serious and include mouth sores, intestinal disorders, kidney function impairment and increased risk of cancer and other tumors.

Pancreas transplant

This is the full surgical transplant of the complete pancreas. Usually this procedure is only done if the kidneys are being transplanted as well. Again, there are many complications with the procedure, and the side effects of the immunosuppressive drugs may be more dangerous and risky than the continued injection of insulin. There is a fairly high rate of rejection for this procedure, but progress continues to be made.

There is also a process to implant an artificial pancreas, but this is still in the development phase. Many researchers believe that this will prevent rejection problems once the artificial pancreas is perfected.

Genetic manipulation

This cure for diabetes would allow insulin producing cells to be made out of regular cells by inserting the insulin producing gene. This would avoid the need for invasive surgery and would prevent most of the risks associated with surgical procedures.

While at this time there is not a definite cure for diabetes, the research is ongoing. New advances in genetic and medical practices and research will hopefully result in a cure for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in the future.

Say Goodbye to High Blood Sugar Levels!

The basis of control of type 2 diabetes really commences with diet. Exercise helps to bring down your blood sugar levels but what you eat is the main controlling factor to bring down your weight, your insulin level, your blood sugars and your cholesterol levels. This will improve control of your type 2 naturally, reducing the need for medications, both oral and insulin-injections.

There are many diabetic diets available, each with conflicting advice. While diet does not replace effective medication, it is the single most important factor overlooked. The correct diet for you leads to much better control of your type 2 diabetes and less medication, which can only give you a better quality of life and reduce the side-effects of drugs.

That said, here are five diet facts to help you:

1. Stick to an effective diabetic diet. This means one based on foods with a low glycemic index (low-GI) ... often referred to as a GI diet. What the glycemic index does is measure the effect of food on raising blood sugar levels. There are several different low-GI diets available, and some are more effective than others. A properly managed one though will bring about:

stable blood sugar levels
lower your insulin-resistance and therefore reduce your need for oral medications
reduce your triglyceride level and improve your HDL, therefore improving your cardiovascular risks

2. A low-GI diet is not the same as a low-carb diet. Both restrict the number of high-GI foods such as bread and pasta but some low-carb diets restrict unrefined vegetable carbohydrates. This is not a good idea unless you plan to add massive vitamin and mineral supplements to your diet.

3. Low-fat/high carbohydrate diets. There are many studies which show how ineffective these diets are on cholesterol levels. The best results showing low blood fats, came from those diabetics who followed the low-GI principle of replacing refined carbohydrates with unrefined carbohydrates.

4. A low-GI diets affects your body's insulin which controls the level of your blood sugars and blood fats. Following this eating plan, insulin-resistance can be lowered reasonably quickly, usually in 10-14 days. As insulin controls fat deposition in your body, it has the added advantage of healthy weight loss also.

5. Constant variations in your blood sugar levels can really only be resolved by lowering your insulin level, which means hypoglycemia doesn't occur and you won't feel weak and irritable. Also you won't feel the need to eat more carbohydrates for energy. Then fat will not be deposited around your waist.

By reducing your intake of refined carbohydrates you reduce your insulin-requirement either from your pancreas or by injection. Eating the correct foods and the correct amount, will improve control over your type 2 diabetes.

Your diet really determines the control of your type 2 diabetes and whether you will live a long healthy life, or an untimely shortened one due to complications. Once you understand what you have to do and why, you will start to control your own health.

New Inhalant Diabetes Medication

Pfizer Global Manufacturing has announced that they are planning to hire almost five hundred new employees and invest up to one hundred and seventy million dollars into the development of their new diabetes drug, Exubera.

The unique factor of this diabetes drug is that it will be inhaled through the mouth, rather than requiring the diabetic to inject the insulin into their body. This will, for all purposes, eliminate the need for needles, one of the more difficult aspects of life for millions of diabetics. Not only are the injections painful, but they are always sources of potential infections. The drug companies and medical professionals have given strong indication that there will be an excellent response to the new form of insulin.

Using Exubera

This drug is a dry powder human insulin that will be taken into the mouth by the use of an inhaler. Users will inhale the medication prior to eating, and whenever else necessary. This is the first inhalable medication for diabetes that will treat both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in adults. The only diabetics that should not use the medication Exubera are those people with existing lung disease. The reason that adults with lung disease will not be able to use the drug is due to the decrease in lung capacity that is noted in individuals during the clinical trials. Most adults report that the inhaler is very simple and easy to use, and can even be used in public. It is small, weighting only about four ounces and it about the size of an eyeglass case.

There is a slight decrease in lung function noted in those individuals participating in the trial studies. This was estimated to be approximately one percent lung capacity lost per year, however the results were reversed when the drug was discontinued. Most humans over the age of 25 lose about the same amount of lung capacity per year regardless of using the drug.

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes affects between five to ten percent of all diabetics, and this type of diabetes requires that the individual take insulin to stay alive. These people need to have regular injections throughout their lives, and until now there were few options to get away from this painful routine.

Inhalant insulin will eliminate the need for adults to inject themselves on a daily basis, and will allow them more freedoms and less restrictions due to the conditions that liquid insulin has to be stored under.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetics cannot manufacture or use insulin that is in the body properly, so they require supplements of insulin. It is estimate that between ninety and ninety-five percent of all diabetics fall into this category. It is also estimated that there are over 200 million diabetics worldwide, and the number is only growing every year.

Products such as Exubera are needed to help diabetics have options on how to manage their type 1 or type 2 diabetes without the need for injections. Adults will now have the option of using the inhalant form of insulin, and research will continue into this much needed form of the drug.

Why Weight Loss Diets For Diabetics Are Important

There is ample research material available which illustrates the link between being over weight and the risk of getting type 2 diabetes. It emphasizes the importance of weight loss diets for diabetics. More recent research has shown that for those who become over weight before the age of 40 the risk of getting type 2 diabetes is increased substantially. This applies particularly to women. This finding is based on a study of almost 700 adults and showed that men who had a large weight gain between the ages of 25 and 40 years were one and a half times more likely to develop diabetes. With women the risk is four times greater compared to people who maintained a steady weight during that time.

What is Type 2 diabetes

Diabetes mellitus type 2, generally referred to as diabetes is becoming increasingly common.

Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of diabetes, is in general a disorder which occurs from middle age onwards. With the increase in obesity, particularly among younger people, the incidence of type 2 diabetes has increased greatly and is being diagnosed more frequently in people of a younger age.

The underlying cause of diabetes is failure by the pancreas to produce sufficient insulin, a hormone which controls the level of glucose in the blood. Over weight or obesity has an influence on the non production of insulin.

There are two other principal types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes, which accounts for 5 -10% of cases of diagnosed diabetes, and gestational diabetes which mainly affects women during pregnancy and usually clears up after child-birth.

Conclusion.
Since excess weight determines to a large extent the degree of risk of contracting diabetes it is easy to understand why weight loss diets for diabetics are important. Monitor your body weight and reduce it if necessary. Much can be achieved by ensuring that you eat a healthy balanced diet and drink plenty of fluid, (8 glasses of water daily is normally the recommended amount). When the present day cost of cost of medical care is taken into account it makes economic sense to do all we reasonably can to retain good health and an investment in a healthy balanced diet could be a great start.

There are several weight loss programs available each of which can help you lose weight safely and confidently. They are flexible and make use of natural foods and provide a choice of menus, including vegetarian. To see a review of a selection of 3 excellent weight loss programs

Preventing and Treating Diabetes and Syndrome X

Syndrome X refers to the risk factors associated with diabetes that includes:

Excessive fat around the abdomen.

Low levels of HDL cholesterol - less than 40mg/dl

in men, less than 50mg/dl in woman.

Fasting blood triglycerides of 150 or higher.

Elevated blood pressure - 130/85 or higher.

Insulin resistance.

In the US it is estimated that 60 million adults have four or more of the above conditions which means they have twenty-five times greater risk of developing diabetes. This is a very serious health issue for all of us and should be addressed right away by anyone in the above category.

The dietary, lifestyle, and supplement strategies for prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes also works for syndrome X as well.

The most effective ways to treat these conditions is to lose weight, get plenty of exercise and carefully watch your diet. Relaxing meditation will help bring it all together.

A proper diet will generally allow you to lose from one to two pounds a week depending on your weight. Good eating habits and exercise are key to losing weight and keeping it off.

Just as important is your mental state in controlling blood sugar. Learn to relax and don't let stress lead your thinking. Your body is not made to stand modern day stress. It might pay for you to take up Yoga or Tai-Chi.

Ignore the messages of the mass media that are constantly pushing unhealthy food choices at us. Instead, choose to be healthy for a long disease free life by leading a health-promoting lifestyle.

It's never too late to start and if you are already diabetic, you can greatly improve your condition.

The Importance of Preventative Dentistry

Good oral hygiene is important for maintaining your overall health.
Prevention is always better than cure and it is advisable to be educated on dental health by your dentist through regular dental checkups and treatments.

Dental care can sometimes be the forgotten part of a healthy lifestyle, and while its importance is often underestimated, the need for regular dental care cannot be overstated. Our teeth can last us a lifetime with the proper preventative dental care.

Preventive Dentistry aims to reduce the required dental restorations throughout your lifetime. This process allows you to keep your beautiful, vibrant smile whilst still maintaining the healthy structure of your teeth and gums and also saving a large amount on future dentistry bills which can prove expensive when intensive remedies become necessary.

Poor oral and dental health can result in serious infections of the mouth, the teeth, and the entire body. Preventive care minimises your risk of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease (gum disease).

Poor oral health has been linked to heart and lung disease, diabetes, stroke, low-birth weight, and premature births. Often, diseases give their first warning signs in the form of oral problems.

* There are four basic steps to maintain good oral health: * Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste * Floss everyday * Limit the number of times you snack * Visit the dentist regularly

To prevent poor oral health, visit your family dentist and always ensure that your children are seen to by their dentist from a young age.

There are a number of options available for overall family dentist treatment, if required but always remember the importance of looking after your teeth by general everyday brushing, flossing and eating healthy!

Garlic Helps Beat Diabetes Naturally - Control Blood Sugar

Well documented facts of how garlic helps the diabetic by improving blood sugar control, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and other vascular risk factors makes it an important part of the control of diabetes. It really is a wonder drug that is cheap and plentiful.

The best way to get the benefits of garlic is to use it liberally in your cooking. Getting the taste for garlic has more benefits then I can list in this article. Once you develop your eating habits around garlic, you will not cook without it.

If you would rather get the benefits of garlic in pill form, you will have to watch out to make sure you're getting all the promised results. Manufacturers coat the prepared garlic in such a way that the tablet does not break down until it has passed through the stomach. This is called enteric coating.

There are a couple of things to look for when choosing a garlic product. It is important to make sure the tablet provides a sufficient level of allicin, important for control of blood sugar.

Next, if the quality of the enteric coating is not right, the allicin will not be liberated at the proper time in the small intestine. 75% of the tested brands of garlic tablets on the market released less than 10% of their label claim of allicin.

The studies showing a positive effect of garlic tablets are those that deliver a sufficient dosage of allicin.

There are two brands that use the USP method to ensure label claims for allicin potential. Garlicin {Nature's Way} and Garlic Factors {Natural Factors}. I recommend one of these two brands if you want to see results.

Pre Diabetics - Save Yourself From Type 2 Diabetes

Almost 30 percent of the US population has what is called pre-diabetes. If left unchecked, it will become type 2 diabetes in about ten years or less in most people. Even young people are now being found with pre-diabetes.

Why is this happening at such an alarming rate? Family history is the blame for some of it, but for the most part it is our easy lifestyle and high intake of sugar and processed food. Just fifty years ago our diet was mainly some meat, vegetables, and maybe some type of potatoes.

Just look at any photo of a street load of people taken in the forties or fifties and count the overweight people. Then walk down town and try to count them. You will have to count fast.

Proper nutrition and physical activity can do wonders for the pre-diabetic to prolong the onset of type 2 diabetes and even prevent it altogether. Just losing ten pounds and doing exercises daily cuts the chance of getting diabetes by fifty percent.

As far as a diet for the prevention of diabetes goes, mainly it should include lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Limit soft drinks, juice, and anything with white flour and sugar. Surprisingly ice cream isn't that bad. It's very important to never skip a meal.

Muscle burns calories, so some weight training should be combined with aerobics and stretching for a good workout several times a week. Staying active by getting out of the house for walks etc. are very important. Staying really active will burn fat and keep your outlook better both mentally and physically.

Best Yeast Infection Home Remedy

It has been medically shown that something that can bring down the amount of helpful bacteria can favor the fungus to increase. Thence, essences like feminine hygiene wash and sprays, processes like douching, taking antibiotics can eliminate the good bacteria.
Women abiding with diabetes are also prone to yeast infections. Though yeast infections are harmless, they only cause some itching and swelling. Several cures are available, including the natural yeast infection cures to treat this disease.

The prescriptions will eliminate the infection, but it will also strip your body or all the good and bad bacteria, which will only extend to another infection. Whereas alternate remedies work with you body and don't eliminate off the good bacteria, aiding your body to ward off any future yeast infections.

DIABETES CONTROL =======================
WHAT IS DIABETES? WHY DO WE NEED TO SLASH DOWN OUR SUGAR INTAKE? ----------------------- Can you imagine your favorite chocolate, candies, cola drinks, spreads, cakes and other baked products, sweet goodies and other foodstuffs without the presence of one of the most important ingredients? Sugar For sure, it will be so heartbreaking. Diabetes, a disease that causes the body to metabolize sugar poorly, occurs when either the body attacks the cells producing insulin, the chemical that allows the metabolizing of sugar in the body's cells also known as (Type 1 diabetes) and the body's cells ignore insulin (Type 2 diabetes). Diabetes is a syndrome of disordered metabolism. Sounds alarming That's why Governments and other healthcare providers around the world are initiating efforts to invest in health education, diagnosis and treatments for this chronic, unbearable - but controllable - disorder. Excessive use of sugar has been related with increased incidences of type 2 Diabetes and obesity. Insulin is a natural body substance produce by pancreas (a part of digestive organ) that is responsible in converting our sugar intake to smaller particle to be absorb by the body to be the source of heat and energy for every days work.

TYPES OF DIABETES ----------------------- Usually this can develop at any age; it typically appears during childhood or adolescence. This is characterized differently and is usually due to insulin resistance or reduced insulin sensitivity, combined with relatively reduced insulin secretion which in some cases becomes unconditional. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. The immune system of the body attacks and destroys the pancreatic cells, and hence, pancreas can no longer produce insulin. The permanent cure for this disorder is still on way. There are several types of diabetes and each one differs from their own characteristic and occurrences. Treatment needs will not significantly impair normal activities, if sufficient patient training, awareness, appropriate care, discipline in testing and dosing of insulin is taken.

DIABETES TREATMENT ----------------------- If diet and exercise aren't enough or fail to control the elevated blood sugars, you may need diabetes medications or insulin therapy to manage your blood sugar. Always stay healthy. Be aware what type of diabetes you have for you to look for other remedies. Common and simple control procedures will really help to manage and treat this medical condition. Ask for help if you feel down to your friends and family to overcome the stress.

ALTERNATIVE DIABETES CURES THROUGH THE HERBAL WAY ----------------------- Since bitter melons are considered to have twice the potassium compared to bananas at the same time increase the amount of beta cells that may help the pancreas to produce insulin. But before we go into that part, let's try to get ourselves be familiar with the disease first in order for us to understand it very well. Types of diabetes may be taken into three types: One is the Type 1 diabetes, second is the Type 2 diabetes and the third one is gestational diabetes. If not treated well, this could lead into complications like renal failure, impotence, hypoglycemia and nervous breakdown. This may effect to too much amount of sugar in blood and in our urine. You have to be well aware of the foods you eat and have quality time to have physical activities that will strengthen your immune system in order for you to have a better health condition. Since bitter melons are considered to have twice the potassium compared to bananas at the same time increase the amount of beta cells that may help the pancreas to produce insulin. In order for the glucose to get through inside our cell, it needs the help of insulin (which is produced by the pancreas). Diabetes is a disease or illness that affects the metabolism of our body. These converted pieces are taken as protein, fats and carbohydrates which will be used to fuel our body for energy. Alternative diabetes cures through the help of marine phytoplankton (algae). Third is the Gestational diabetes which is prominent to pregnant women.

Cushings Disease - Causes & Symptoms

What is Cushings Disease?
Canine Cushings Disease is a rather nasty and insidious disease known medically as hyperadrenocorticism, which is a condition of the adrenal glands in which they over-produce a hormone known as cortisol.

Adrenal glands are important. They are small and live beside each kidney (which explains why surgery is tricky) and their purpose is to regulate systems and metabolism.

Under normal conditions, the adrenals secrete cortisol in balanced amounts which is important for the regulation of protein, carbohydrate and fat; body weight, mineral balance, and skin health and this helps your dog fight illness and remain healthy.

However when Cushing's Disease occurs, the adrenal glands produce too much cortisol (corticosteroids) and this has adverse effects. The origins and causes of the disease are not so well understood.

In the majority of cases, Cushings Disease is found in senior animals and small breed dogs and comes about as a result of a benign tumors in the pituitary gland. The tumor cells produce excessive amounts of ACTH, which in turn stimulates the adrenal glands to produce excessive amounts of cortisol.

The remaining 15% of the cases of Cushings disease are caused by either a tumor in one (or very rarely both) of the adrenal glands, resulting in overproduction of cortisol, or excessive use of corticosteroid drugs.

What are Cushings Disease Symptoms?

Symptoms of Cushings Disease include:

* Excessive Drinking and Urination * Appetite gain * Lethargy * Excessive panting * A sagging pot belly * Diabetes Mellitus (more frequent in cats, but less frequent in Canine Cushings) * Endocrine (hormone-related) skin diseases (hair loss and slow-healing wounds) * You notice a general sense of your pet not feeling well

If you think about it the above conditions are consistent with what you would expect to see in older dogs and this explains why its sometimes quite tricky to diagnose Cushings Disease in its early stages.

So whats the end game with Cushings Disease? The answer is that left unchecked, an unfortunate raft of troubles may occur such as:

1. diabetes 2. urinary tract infections 3. pancreatitis 4. liver disease 5. kidney failure 6. skin infections 7. ear infections 8. congestive heart failure 9. hypothyroidism

Can Herbal Remedies Help?

At our company Allpetnaturls.com we have always said that classical veterinary medicine used in combination with alternative therapies is a reasonable way to proceed, so always, always work with an animal health care professional.

From a herbal perspective, and the answer to this important question, can herbal remedies fight Cushings Disease? The answer is that a holistic approach to the disease can help, particularly if you think of boosting the immune system -- which is under pressure from the disease.

Allpetnaturals has a product called Constitutional Blend which is available for $21.95. This herbal tincture has two active ingredients - dandelion and burdock root - among others which are key to flushing the body of toxins and effective in strengthening an overtaxed liver, kidneys, and digestive system.

Both herbs are also rich in minerals such as potassium and magnesium, which are good for the body because much is lost due to excessive urination.

What Other Ways is Cushings Disease Treated?

Conventional treatment of cushings disease in dogs includes drug therapy and surgery. The good news is that drugs do work but the side effects can be rough stuff.

Surgery works as well but that depends where the tumor is located. If the tumor is on the pituitary gland then generally their is no cure because the gland sits right underneath the brain and its generally too risky a location for surgery. If the tumor is located on the adrenal glands, the tumor is then removed.

Conventional drugs used to treat cushings disease include: Lysodren and Ketaconazole. Side effects would be: nausea, diarrhea, appetite loss, lethargy. A new drug entered onto the market about 10 years ago showing some promise. It is called Anipryl. Again, possible side effects include: lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR BODY IMMUNE TO THE SWINE FLU VIRUS

Can the natural remedy that stopped the Spanish Flu of 1918 stop the swine flu virus? Author of bestselling book offers compelling
evidence that the swine flu virus can be rendered powerless in the body when one self-administers a natural oxygenating substance in

less than one minute.

As the number of swine flu deaths swell to an alarming 1,800 worldwide, and the World Health Organization predicts an "explosion" of

swine flu cases in the coming months and declares a "public health emergency of international concern," a pandemic appears to be

not only possible but inevitable. The last pandemic -- the Hong Kong flu of 1968 -- killed about 1 million people. (Source: Associated Press August 21, 2009)

The outbreak of swine flu virus last spring was only a preview of the frightening events to come. The full onslaught of swine flu in the

United States will make itself painfully known during the upcoming flu season, starting fairly early in September. It will most likely

infect 30-40% of the U.S. population, or about 100 million people, according to flu expert Ira Longini, from the University of

Washington's School of Public Health. (Source: ABC News and msnbc.com)

Initial supplies of the swine flu vaccine, which will be available sometime between mid-September to late October 2009, are expected

to be very limited -- barely enough to inoculate the 160 million people who are at high risk of becoming infected. An even bigger

concern is whether the fast-tracked vaccine is safe and effective -- since it's being rushed to market without the appropriate testing and

safety evaluations.

It is a growing suspicion in the general population and among certain members of the medical community, including Dr. Joseph

Mercola, the publisher of a popular self-titled natural health newsletter, that being exposed to this new swine flu vaccine might prove to

be more dangerous than the swine flu itself.

Madison Cavanaugh, author of "The Secret to Healing Virtually All Diseases" insists, however, that the fear is incorrectly placed on

the swine influenza virus itself. "Microbes, germs, harmful bacteria and viruses, such as the swine influenza virus, do not cause disease

in and of themselves," Cavanaugh states. "They do seek their natural habitat -- such as an oxygen-deficient body -- rather than being

the cause of the disease. It's no different from the way mosquitoes seek out stagnant water, but do not cause the pool to become

stagnant."

Cavanaugh's assertion is consistent with the findings of Dr. Rudolf Virchow (1821 - 1902), also called the "Father of Pathology." It is

also supported by Louis Pasteur, the notable 19th century French chemist and microbiologist best known for his remarkable

breakthroughs in the causes and prevention of disease, who recanted his germ theory of disease at his deathbed, stating, "The microbe

is nothing. The terrain is everything." The terrain of which he spoke refers to an oxygenated environment in the human body, which

makes for a strong immune system. A weakened or suppressed state of the immune system only occurs when the human body lacks

oxygen, thereby allowing viruses, such as the swine influenza virus, to breed.

It therefore stands to reason that the swine influenza virus does not cause disease, but rather seeks out an environment where it can

thrive best -- and that is in oxygen-deprived bodies. "A sufficiently oxygenated body is uninhabitable by disease," Cavanaugh states,

and viruses can neither survive nor thrive in it. Therefore, the best defense against microbes, germs, harmful bacteria and viruses,

such as the swine flu virus, is to keep the body oxygenated.

Cavanaugh's book, http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=1022855 , discusses the therapeutic use of the only natural substance

which stimulates the movement of oxygen atoms from the bloodstream to the cells to a dramatically greater degree than is usually

reached by other means. This action creates an oxygenated environment that enables the body to cure itself of virtually all diseases

ranging from influenza to cancer, AIDS, heart disease, asthma, diabetes and arthritis. The natural oxygenating substance which is the

core subject of the book has a long history of therapeutic use dating back 170 years ago when it was used to reverse a wide variety of

illnesses -- from minor ones like colds and flu to serious ones like cholera and malaria. It has even been used to help stop the Spanish

Flu of 1918.

Over the past 70 years, this safe, inexpensive and powerful healing modality has been administered by an estimated 15,000 European

doctors, naturopaths and homeopaths to more than 10 million patients to successfully treat practically every known disease. The

natural remedy can be self-administered at home in less than a minute, and costs only 1-1/2 cents a day to use. For more information,

How To Control Your Diabetes

DIABETES CONTROL
It would be for a lifetime. Its not because of their free will, its because, they need to do so.
WHAT IS DIABETES? WHY DO WE NEED TO SLASH DOWN OUR SUGAR INTAKE?
The cells become starving for energy because they do not have access to the glucose in short term. A disease where pancreas(a part of digestive organ)is unable to secrete enough insulin.
TYPES OF DIABETES
However, severe long-term complications can result to kidney failure, vascular disease, vision damage, loss of sensation or and heart failure. Since insulin became medically available. If not properly attend to, this condition may become persistent that could even lead other organ malfunction and other complication. Type 1 diabetes or once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes where in this condition the pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone needed by the body to convert sugar (glucose) into energy. Diabetes is classified into two types.
DIABETES TREATMENT
But there are lots of treatments to control and handle its harmful effects to the body with the major goal of treating and minimizing any elevation of blood sugar without causing abnormally low levels of blood sugar.
DIABETES MANAGEMENT

ALTERNATIVE DIABETES CURES THROUGH THE HERBAL WAY
Carbohydrates are considered to be the building block of our body. Types of diabetes may be taken into three types: One is the Type 1 diabetes, second is the Type 2 diabetes and the third one is gestational diabetes. Alternative diabetes cures through the help of marine phytoplankton (algae). Since we are talking about health problems that most people are facing, we may discuss one great disease that is greatly known today and that is Diabetes. When we take in foods inside our body, pieces of the grinded foods are converted through different processes. Third is the Gestational diabetes which is prominent to pregnant women. If not treated well, this could lead into complications like renal failure, impotence, hypoglycemia and nervous breakdown. As we all know, it is still true that prevention is better than cure.
